Sp Town Mayor calls for animal pound
published: Monday | July 18, 2005

WHEATLEY

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

MAYOR OF Spanish Town, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, has decried the frequency with which stray animals roam the town's streets, a situation which puts the call for a pound into the spotlight.

Dr. Wheatley, who was speaking at the monthly general council meeting last Thursday, said that the time has come where proactive action has to be taken to deal with this problem. As a result, he said, he will be forming a committee to fast-track the plans to secure an appropriate location for the erection of an animal pound.

ONGOING PROBLEM

He said that the question of stray animals, which often caused accidents and loss of life on the roads, has been an ongoing problem for several years and the time has come for this to be addressed.

This decision came after several councillors from the council enquired as to when they are going to have access to a proper pound in the parish.

The mayor said the interim committee will investigate and bring their findings to the next council meeting which will be held in September, as in August the council will take a recess.
