Who will act for seniors?
published: Monday | July 18, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I SHOULD be much obliged if you would publish this letter in your newspaper.

We, the senior citizens of this country, are frustrated! It seems we have no one to act on our behalf. Indeed, the Prime Minister is a senior citizen, himself. He should, therefore, take pleasure in acting on behalf of his fellow senior citizens!

It is now three years since we received an increase in our N.I.S Pension which is way out of line with the cost of living. Imagine when we go to the supermarket to purchase food with the GCT now 16.5 per cent - what can we really buy?

When our goodly minister, Portia Simpson Miller was Minister of Labour and Social Security, she never failed us every two years. She saw to it that we got a substantial increase in our pension. But, in their "wisdom" they saw it fit to remove her.

We need an understanding and sympathetic minister to stand up for us. Is it time for a change?

I am, etc.,
