Mark Myers, general manager of KFC, presents his mother Lorna, founder of KFC in Jamaica, with a Gold Colonel award for 30 years of service to the company.Sitting on the terrace of the Caymanas Golf Club, under a canopy created with frothy red and white fabric depicting the colours of KFC, nearly 300 employees of the quick-service restaurant chain dined to the strains of the Ibo Cooper Band last Saturday night. It was an event, 'Celebration of our Team', hosted by KFC now in its 30th year of operation locally.
Having been given the night off by their employers, the females were dressed in gowns that shimmered and flattered, while the men donned their finest suits to walk the red carpet leading from the entrance to the poolside and from the poolside to the terrace.
On hand to greet the guests were members of the Myers
family owners of the 29-store franchise throughout Jamaica. They included Lorna Myers, chairman of Restaurants of Jamaica operators of KFC; Mark Myers, general manager of KFC; Michelle Myers-Mayne, director, and Tina Myers-Matalon, marketing manager.
During cocktails, staffers of the Caymanas Golf Club ensured that guests had an adequate supply of choice liquor and hors d'oeuvres, while mingling at the poolside. Then it was time for dinner and the formalities, including a keynote address by consultant psychiatrist, Dr. Aggrey Irons.
About 279 KFC workers were recognised for their contribution to the growth of the quick-service restaurant chain, 44 of whom were presented with Gold Colonel Statues for being with the company for between 16 and 30 of service years of service. Among that group were Mark Myers; Michelle Myers-Mayne, Lorna Myers and Donny Baugh, as well as Edris Nelson and Cassie Shield, who are area managers. Ms. Nelson and Mr. Shield were acknowledged by Mr. Myers as having played a critical role in the efficient running of the operational aspects of the business.
The evening ended at about 1:00 a.m. with a cabaret show featuring A.J. Brown, Pam Hall and Alaine Laughton, followed by dancing to the Arif Cooper Disco.
