Powell, Gatlin to clash again
published: Friday | June 24, 2005

THE MEET organisers of the Borotalco Golden Gala in Rome have set up another Asafa Powell/Justin Gatlin clash.

The last time the two met was at the Prefontaine Classic in the United States where despite both crossing the line in a wind-assisted 9.84 seconds, Gatlin was awarded the race. Powell has since run a world record 9.77 seconds

Apart from Gatlin, the Olympic 100m champion, and Powell, the world's fastest man, the top-class field at the July 8 meet will also include Shawn Crawford, who won the 200m in Athens, and reigning World Champion, Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The race should be a tough test for Powell heading into the World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, this August.

Also down to face the starter with the Jamaican, who is currently the Overall IAAF World-ranked number one male athlete, will be Ghana's Aziz Zakari who clocked 9.99 behind Powell in his world record run in Athens, John Capel of America and European Cup champion Roland Pognon of France.
