Birthday blow-outs
published: Friday | June 24, 2005

Chester Francis-Jackson, Gleaner Writer

WELL, MY dears, last Wednesday, the financial guru brought in to assist with ironing out the mess that was the debacle created by the meltdown in the financial sector, international financial expert Brent Ciurlino, now based in Washington DC, celebrated another year of the fabulous life. To mark the occasion, he and his gorgeous wife, Dr. Kim Brown, jetted into Kingston from DC, where parties there were a-plenty and champagne was the preferred elixir.

Luvs, it was fabulousness without no bounds as the fab couple, family and friends simply whooped it up and then some. And, as is the growing trend within this nuclear society, it was Brent who donned the apron and cooked up a fabulous Italian fare for guests, and for my word, the man certainly knows his way in the kitchen and definitely knows how to make those dishes talk.

The couple returned to DC on Monday, but not before doing the rounds of fab dos and soirees in their honour.

BLOWING OUT CANDLES

And speaking of the fabulous and their birthdays, dears, come Monday, the beautiful and oh-so-charming Betty Ashley will be blowing out candles on her birthday as it's her turn to celebrate another year of the fab-life. The word is, however, no big celebrations here as the occasion will be marked by a warm and intimate affair as hubby Steve Ashley and their kids are the party planners.

Also celebrating on Monday is one time Pulse model Steve Goldson, now computer management expert and a resident of Philadelphia. The celebrations will be confined to the City of Brotherly Love this weekend as wife Jacqui Priestly-Goldson and their children will be making it a family affair. The party will continue here in Kingston come mid-September, however, when the Goldsons visit.

Next Saturday, the gorgeous and fabulously beautiful Dr. Saphire Longmore will mark another birthday and dears, expect a blow-out of a party on this day as indeed, the lovely doctor will be partying hearty and then some.

Oh, and yes, invitees only!

And then, dears, beset with reports of murders and other acts of violence being perpetrated on members of the fabulous class, last Saturday night the chic and the fabulous were out in swellegant numbers partying-up one almighty storm, as they celebrated the life of the fabulous and chic like there would be no tomorrow.

Pumpkins, it was a tsunami of fabulousness, the likes of which this here nation's capital has not seen in a very, very, long time. And when it was all over, the memories taken from it will long live in the annals of party legends, as dears we are talking a social tenner here. Or in literary terms - this one was a best-seller!

Oh-my-word, what a beautiful night! Dears, it was dee-vine, and then some!

And so, it's Saturday and the word out for weeks leading up to last Saturday, was that indeed, the Jamdammers would be hosting the Kingston leg of their annual fund-raising efforts, done to raise funds for their 2005 Grand Prix series, culminating with their signature showstopper, The Reggae Marathon, on December 3, over in fabulous Negril.

And so it is, that with Kingston not known for being a happening party city on a Saturday night, the temptation was to opt for a dash to the North Coast, where partying is the way of life, rather than risk staying in Kingston, to attend the Jamdammers party. After all, with the Jamdammers being fitness buffs, and all, why risk it? And while those in the know, already knew that the Jamdammers were as serious about partying as they are about being fitness buffs, dears, no one wants to get all dolled-up on a Saturday night and there's no audience!

Well dears, as the weekend approached, the talk in Kingston, was all about the Jamdammers party, and we are talking hot talk here, with some fashionable people jetting in from Florida, DC and NY, to attend, so y'all know, that with a build-up like this, and with tickets from the lovely Diane Ellis already in the waiting, and friends all a-aching to attend, this was a must attend, for this here scribe.

Well sweet-things, pity all those who missed this here one as, and this is on the life of this here Compaq note book, parties do not get any hotter and/or any better than this!

Oh, Sweet Mary and her beloved son Jesus, what a party! My dears, it's the stuff from which sweet dreams are made, urban myths are created, and lesser mortals attain the status of fabulousness, as by hanging with the fabulous they too take on the air of the fabulous, and by extension become co-fabulous, by using the principle of co-importance. You know, the hangers-on or groupies who hang out with the hot and/or important people and then affect an air of co-importance?

Dears, say no more cos we know y'all know lots of them!

A SENSATIONAL EVENT

Anyways, it was not that kind of a party, as it truly was a sensational event with lots of genuinely beautiful and hot people! And with so many daahlings and dovecakes in attendance, y'all have to forgive the dumplings and gizzadas, for thinking they were fabulous too! But dears, it was a flame thrower, when it came to hotness!

And dears, without question, the night belonged to the beautiful people and nothing but! Aam-a-telling-yuh, it was like that and then some, as every which way one way one looked, one saw the beautiful, the chic and the buffed! Luvs, it made for one sizzling affair as the music was pumping, the beautiful dancing like there was no other care in the world, coquettes vamping like she-devils on the prowl and Smirnoff Vodka reigning supreme, oh, for-my-word, what a fabulous cantata it proved!

Dears, it was sensational!

Doves, hosted in St. Andrew proper in the coveted neighbourhood known as the 'Golden Triangle,' the party got under way at 10:00 p.m. and with a scheduled closing time for 2:00 a.m., dovecakes, by midnight, the place was a cauldron of fabulousness, just a-busting at the seams. And dears, every which roadway, byway, nook and cranny in the Golden Triangle area of Vale Royal was strewn with the favoured high-priced SUVs and other luxury imports, making it pretty nigh to impossible to get to within two hundred feet of the party venue.

Honeys, we are talking hundreds of the young and hot-to-trot here and partying up a storm on the lawns of the beautifully laid out grounds here, as Michelle Lee did up the place to reflect the festive atmosphere and party spirit, with the frontal area of the property dotted with marquees offering libations and food that made the whole affaire a study in fabulous organisational equanimity and then some, as this facilitated one mega dancefloor set in the middle of the lawns and proved to be exactly what the Doctor ordered, as guests simply took to the dancefloor and never looked back, or forward for that matter, as right then and there, the world never looked better!

Talk about La Vie En Rose! Dovecakes, this was it!

And who would have 'thunk' it?

Sweet-things, just imagine, some 10 years ago, a group of people who found themselves regular joggers at the Mona reservoir, called the Dam, by all and sundry, became known as the Jamdammers. This motley crew, included a Bank CEO, a Rastafarian Businessman, a real estate executive, a layout designer, a grocer, a Guyanese economist, a former Peace Corp volunteer and a French diplomat - all came together because of their mutual love for jogging and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and so jamdammers was born.

Today, the group boasts over sixty members, and have established themselves as the premiere running club in Jamaica, with an organisational strength which see them staging at least 10 road races each year and the establishment of the Jamdammers Grand Prix series, which has seen them disbursing over one point three million dollars in sponsorships and prize monies.

Well pumpkins, they might only have sixty members, but their fame for hosting fab-shindigs, have attracted a large and growing party-fan-base of fabulous people, making tickets to their events the hottest since Frenchmen.

And this my dears, was why, last Saturday's 10th anniversary fundraising celebrations, was a marathon of fabulousness, with all the fabulous people in tow. And Luvs, did they party hearty! They did like 'pitch-pine' on fire!

Luvs, the famed Delano, of Renaissance fame, was the maestro at the controls, and he churned out hits, after hits, after hits. And honey-chiles, guests needed no prompting and so danced, and partied like only the beautiful can, and for my word, what a blast! Magical even, and then some!

Pumpkins, it was all that, and then some! And with: Barclay and Deidra Ewart; Richard Lake; Peter and Nicola Melhado; Chris Zacca; the charming Debbie Garbutt; Alfred 'Frano' Francis and companion the elegant Diane Ellis; Drs. Guyan and Susanne Arscott and their celebrated offspring Dr. Ramon Arscott; Financial Controller of the Guardsman Group, Vinay Walia; Former Miss World, the very beautiful Lisa Hanna; former Miss Jamaica World Allison Barnett; former Miss Jamaica Universe Dr. Saphire Longmore; the oh-so-lovely Kerry-Ann Clarke; international Financial Consultant Brent Ciurlino and his wife the fab Dr. Kim Brown, in from DC; bon vivant Dickie Cole, in from The Big Apple; Syreeta Massop, in from the UK; the engagingly charming Janet Farrow; Paul and Cynthia Hanworth; one of Kingston's more charming couple, Andrew and Karen Chang; Gavin Beckford; the lovely Lydia Cherry; Alistair MacBeth; Delrose Campbell; Andre Hylton; the beautiful Frances Yeo; Brian Schmidt and Allison Peart, who danced like they were the only ones on the dancefloor; Anna Chin looking simply dee-vine; the celebrated artist Joshua Higgins; Deborah Duperly Pinks; Glendon Nam; Gina Harrison; Garth King; the fabulous Sibblies girls, twins Rain and Shauna Sibblies; as well as Stephen Francis, the sensational Asafa Powell's coach - all in the house and partying, y'all know, we are talking one fabulously wicked do here!

Dears, it was and it rained fabulousness and made for one fine outing, one of the best this here fair city has seen, for a Saturday night!
