THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a citizen of Westchester, Portmore, and religiously every Saturday evening especially, I can take down my kerosene lamp, candles and matches, sit patiently and wait for the light to go any time from 7:00 p.m. until whenever they feel to return it. We the residents of Westchester don't seem to be paying our utility bills and this seems to be a privilege granted to us. In other communities where the service is either stolen or illegally connected, they are not faced with these problems.
No Saturday evening can I relax before my television set to watch the news or any programme of interest. I work five days per week and my weekends are treasured because that's the only time a lot of working persons watch any programme they aren't able to watch during the week. I made a call to find out why we were being penalised. The lady told me that our demand for electricity at that time was too high and they had to take it off until the demand decreased.
Gone are the days when we would sit in the dark and tell duppy stories, because there was nothing else to do then. I now have a son and I am not into entertaining him with any of those weird stories and chatting foolishly, so I'd opt any night for light over darkness.
I am, etc.,
