JDF, Kingston and Lucas secure first innings leads
published: Sunday | May 1, 2005

JAMAICA DEFENCE Force (JDF), Kingston and Lucas secured first innings honours over Kensington, St. Elizabeth and St. Catherine CC respectively on yesterday's opening day of their fourth round Supreme Ventures Super Cup matches.

At Emmet Park, former Jamaica Youth player Gregory Buchanan hit an unbeaten century to lead Kingston to 217 for five, this in reply to St. Elizabeth's 160.

Buchanan, who came to the rescue of Kingston who were reeling on 40 for three, will resume today's final day on an even 100.

The left-handed Buchanan, who played for St. Catherine Parish last season, also shared in an important fourth wicket partnership of 153 with Nicholas Austin who contributed 85.

KINGSTON'S FIGHT

Buchanan, who has so far struck 14 fours off 258 deliveries, and Shane Brooks, eight, will continue Kingston's fight for full points today.

Howard Powell, another former Jamaica Youth player, had so far taken 3-49.

Earlier, Nehemiah Perry took 6-58 to blow away St. Elizabeth for their paltry score.

Only Dave Ledgister, 65 (7x4, 2x6), Damion Ebanks, 24, and Powell, 21, made any significant contribution.

At Up Park Camp, JDF, replying to Kensington's 113, were 252 for nine at the close.

Warren Medwinter (4-35) and Kamal Dennis (3-40) and Mark Grey (3-19) combined and took advantage of a weakened Kensington batting line-up which was missing the services of Wavell Hinds, David Bernard Jr., Brenton Parchment, Maurice Kepple and Daren Powell.

Roland Henry, 23, and Peter Colquhoun, 25, made most runs.

In reply, JDF led by Met Wint, 81, Mark Grey, 52 not out, and Dennis, 21, raced past their opponent's score. Kevin Peart has so far taken 5-58.

At Chedwin Park, replying to St. Catherine CC's 77, Lucas closed on 246 for nine.

DISMISSALS

Gary Herbine (6-26) and Omar Burke (2-28) first combined to dismiss St. Catherine CC as only Wayne Morgan, 36, stood up to the bowling.

When Lucas replied, Wayne Gayle, 86, Herbine, 86 not out, and Ryan Smith, 37, hit most runs against Bevon Brown (5-47) and Damion Morgan (2-39).

At Gray's Inn, St. Mary were 103 for six replying to 204 made by Melbourne.

Carlton Baugh hit 75 in Melbourne's innings against Tousaint Hossan's three wickets. Andre Creary and Hensley Wilshaw supported with two wickets each.

At Kirkvine, Manchester closed on 296 for eight.

Donovan Sinclair, 94, David Powell, 68, and Gary Graham, 42, have so far scored the most runs for Manchester.

Rajiv Chatrie (5-58) and Kevin Kelly (3-56) shared the wickets.
