Renovation at Clarendon Parish Council offices
published: Wednesday | April 27, 2005

ROUGHLY $8 million has been spent to carry out infrastructural work and beautification at the offices of the Clarendon Parish Council.

Mayor of May Pen, Councillor Milton Brown, told JIS News recently that the money was spent to refurbish the area that was once used as the Inland Revenue Department.

That area now houses the planning department and reception area at the council. A lunchroom, kitchen and bathroom facilities for both the public and members of staff have also been refurbished, Mayor Brown said.

Additionally, a parking lot to accommodate 25 vehicles has been established for officers of the council. Persons who attend court sessions will now be able to access more parking space in the old parking area.

The mayor also noted that landscaping has been carried out on the grounds, and a fence has been erected.

"The changes we have made here will help to streamline local governance with better placement of the planning department and reception area. The look of the entire property is indicative of what we want the entire parish to look like, not just the council," he said.

Mayor Brown revealed that an additional $300,000 has been spent to beautify the town's Independence Park, including landscaping, cleaning, painting, repairing the fence as well as the planting and pruning of trees.

The refurbishing work is being carried out under a renovation programme for the parish, which also involves the rehabilitation of one green area in each of the six constituencies in the parish, and two in the town of May Pen.
