Children's group backs Mother in Crisis initiative

THE HEAR the Children's Cry Committee, an umbrella group of organisations which focus on the welfare of the island's children, has come out in support of the initiative being taken by the new 'Mother in Crisis' group.

Mother in Crisis, as was reported in The Sunday Geaner on April 17, is a group of mothers who have united to use their influence, to empower other mothers with tips on how to get their loved ones (who have gone astray of the law) back on track, thereby decreasing the crime rate.

CALL TO JAMAICAN FATHERS

"We want Mrs. Doreen Billings (the head of Mother in Crisis) to know that we stand behind them and their call to all Jamaican mothers, to let us now begin to invest in our children," said Betty Ann Blaine, convenor of the Hear the Children's Cry Committee.

"We are also calling on the fathers, because we realise that the root problem of the crisis in Jamaica is motherlessness and fatherlessness. It is a family crisis," she added.

Mrs. Blaine said she will be meeting with the members of Mother in Crisis soon, to look at ways to amalgamate both groups. This, she said, is in an effort to build a strong group to fight the monster of crime.

"We take this opportunity to call on every group in Jamaica. Those involving parents, churches, communities, neighbourhood watch and other civic groups, to get involved in the reconstruction of Jamaica, as a matter of extreme urgency," Mrs. Blaine said.
