A 'fat beat' for MAGIC CITY
published: Friday | January 28, 2005

Germaine Smith, Staff Reporter

BUJU BANTON'S single 'Magic City from his upcoming album Rasta Got Soul will be distributed exclusively by the international entity Fat Beats Distribution Incorporated.

Fat Beats is a leading distributor of independent vinyl records with retail outlets in New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam, plus they also distribute hip hop clothes and other merchandise. The company was formed in 1994 as a small store in Manhattan, but has steadily grown into the giant retail it is today.

The 7 inch vinyl of Magic City' will now be distributed by Fat Beats in the United States, while Buju's Gargamel imprint will handle the local distribution.

"Fat Beats has consistently proven themselves as leaders and visionaries in the area of vinyl distribution. We are proud of this alliance," said Buju in a statement.

Although it has not yet been officially released, 'Magic City' has been quietly stirring up a storm both here and overseas. It received a smashing five stars from 'THE BEAT' magazine and reportedly has regular rotation on several United States radio stations.

The music video for the track was shot last week. It was directed by Troy Antonio and shot in different areas between the Ocho Rios Fishing Village and Port Royal and its environs.

"It was colourful and vibrant. It truly reflects Buju and suspends us into real Rasta culture," stated Tracii McGregor, the project's co-ordinator. "We have lots of footage and we are looking for a release as early as next month."

'Magic City' will officially be released in March, while 'Rasta Got Soul' will be released later this year.
