THE EDITOR, Sir:I HAD the opportunity to attend the Sunday January 16 showing of Patrick Brown's production 'Ras Noah and the Hawk' which I found most entertaining and well choreographed in most parts.
I hasten to say however that I was very disappointed and concerned as to the negative connotation depicted in the early scene of Ras Noah's return to his community. The songs and script carried a message that expressed great disappointment of Noah's transformation to adopting the faith of 'Rastafari' and how it was a shameful achievement and demeaning to his family and the community at large.
There were many children in attendance and in my opinion this is not very good for the development of an integral part of our culture to inculcate in our young minds the notion that Rastas are 'dirty' and of a lesser class to the general society.
Though Noah became the star and saviour in the show, the damage I do believe was already done and we should be more careful in the future not to continue these unfortunate situations were we degenerate and malign those who profess another faith from the traditional line we preach.
I would still recommend that persons see the show but try and have an open mind and get past the scene that of which I write. To all the cast big up
I am, etc.,
