WESTERN BUREAU:

VEENA CHANDIRAM took the advice of her Latino friends and placed a cross made of salt at the entrance to her yard with the hope the heavens would not burst open and wreak havoc on her 'after Christmas party'.

What Mrs. Chandiram didn't do enough of, was 'believe'. 'Belief kills and belief cures'. "For it to work, you must believe it will work, maybe Veena didn't," said her main adviser, Yoly Mahtani, Honorary Consul for Chile.

Of course, the skies opened, just as they have been doing all week, but this was of no great significance to the many friends who gathered at the cozy Chandiram residence. This party was not about the music, the emphasis was on the fellowship and the fabulous Indian food that lined the tables.

WELCOMED CHANGE

A change from regulars such as jerk pork and chicken was welcomed, and caterers 'Passage to India' who came all the way from Ocho Rios, made every effort to put out an array of tasty dishes including mutton seekah kebab, chicken samosa, garlic nam (bread), the famous chili mushroom, veggi-bullets, sami kebab and rogan josh (another way of doing mutton).

Conversation surrounded the gorgeous new era necklaces that adorned the necks of some of Montego Bay's socialites.

Paola Byles clothed her cute neckline with Peruvian silver, coupled with mother of pearl, while Kathy Dear had on 'Tous' from Spain, Nicole Meirerinck wore a contemporary shell and a bauble looking piece, which spoke volumes.

The comfy Mango Walk mansion offered warmth to the large number of persons who turned out.

The 'Who's who' list included, Price Waterhouse's Peter Williams, wife Janice and a very special lady mother lady Ida Williams. Neena Chandiramani's daughter, Nisha Melvani and husband Anand, Brian and Sally Roper, Merrick Fray, Cheryl Atkinson, Bobby and Indu Chandiram, Joan and Clive Lee, Joanne and Kevin Robertson.

Also out to party were: Manu Chandiramani, Julie, Shobhu, Kumar and Kishin Samtani, Robin and Trina DeLisser, Ann and Ray Saioux, Anil and Mahek Chatani, Ripton and Margot Macpherson, Richard and Violet Whitfield, Brian and Shelagh Jardim, Sunil, Pishni, Nari and Sheila Khiatani, Indru, Racquel and Aroon Dadlani, Emile and Pinki Martin, Ashook and Sheila Mulchandani.

Denny and Veena Chandiram's
parents, Janki and Pishu Chandiram were the perfect hosts.
