CFU games kick off today
published: Sunday | December 12, 2004

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad CMC:

THE CARIBBEAN Football Union (CFU) Digicel Cup second round qualifying series for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup starts today with five games across the region.

In some key match-ups involving CFU top-10 ranked teams meeting each other, Jamaica's Reggae Boyz, rated No. 1 in the CFU, are away to St. Lucia at the Vieux Fort National Stadium, fourth-ranked Haiti face St. Kitts and Nevis at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Grenada, the CFU's eighth-ranked team, take on St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) at Arnos Vale in St. Vincent.

T&T FACE BVI

In the remaining second-round games today, eight-time Caribbean Cup champions Trinidad and Tobago, the only CFU team that made it into the final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, face little-rated British Virgin Islands (BVI) at the AO Shirley Recreation Ground in Tortola, and French-speaking Martinique are at home to Cuba.

The second-leg games will be played later in the month, and the winners along with French Guyana, who earned a bye straight into the third round will go on to third-round action next month, January 9 and 16.

The third-round winners will then join hosts Barbados in the CFU Final Round of the Digicel Cup from February 20-24, 2005, which will qualify three teams to the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup July 6-24 in the U.S.
