WITH JUST 19 days before the end of the year, the country's murder rate continue to race unabated, towards the 1,500 mark.The police report that three people were killed between Friday and Saturday.
In the first incident, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that 55-year-old Basil Bowes of Byndloss, Linstead, St. Catherine was shot and killed by unknown assailant(s) along the Byndloss main road Friday morning.
The CCN said Mr. Bowes along with two other men responded to an allegation that a car belonging to a relative was being broken into about 2:30 a.m. They saw a man trying to enter the car but he fled on seeing them. Mr. Bowes gave chase and shots were heard shortly after. Mr. Bowes was later found lying on the road with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In the second incident a 29-year-old woman was shot and killed and her-six-year old daughter injured at their home at Espeut Avenue, Kingston 11, Friday morning.
The dead woman has been identified as Suzette Young. Her daughter was admitted to hospital.
The CCN reported that about 6:15 a.m., Ms. Young and her daughter were at home when a man entered the house and opened fire hitting her and the child. The police were summoned and they were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where Miss Young was pronounced dead.

The St. Andrew South Homicide team, which is investigating, is seeking a man known as "Jason" whom they believe can assist in their investigations.
The police said that Ikcal Stewart, 32, was stabbed to death during a dispute with another man at Raymond district, Hayes, Clarendon on Friday night.
Stewart, the police said, was at a shop in the district about 8:50 p.m. when a man, known only as "Kojac" entered. A dispute reportedly developed between the two and a knife was used to stab Stewart. He ran from the shop and was chased into nearby bushes. The police were summoned and Stewart was found suffering from his wounds. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
