Euell... is now being eyed by team selectors as a possible starter for the all-important clash with the U.S.
KINGSTON, Jamaica CMC:
AS EXPECTED, Charlton Athletic striker Jason Euell has been included in a 22-man Jamaican squad to face the United States in their crucial CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in Ohio on November 17.
The 27-year old, who plies his trade in the English Premiership, was recently cleared to represent Jamaica after his initial application to represent the country was turned down by FIFA, the world governing body for football.
Euell, whose father was born in Jamaica, had hoped to represent the Reggae Boyz in the World Cup qualifiers against Panama and El Salvador last month, and flew to Kingston in anticipation of a positive ruling from FIFA.
However, he never linked up with the squad after FIFA refused to give him international clearance. Subsequently, former Jamaica Football Federation president, Captain Horace Burrell made a case for the player to the FIFA Legal Affairs Committee, while in Zurich for a meeting.
Euell, who boasts an impressive goalscoring record in the Premiership, is now being eyed by team selectors as a possible starter for the all-important clash with the US. A former England Under-21, he has scored 32 goals in 110 games for Charlton in the Premiership, since moving across London for a fee of £4.75 million in 2001 from Wimbledon.
Euell will join an already star-studded 22-man squad that includes the likes of fellow Premiership players Ricardo Fuller and Ricardo Gardner, who represent Portsmouth and Bolton respectively.
