NOMINATIONS ARE now open for the prestigious Gleaner Honour Awards which recognise the initiative, courage and accomplishments of an individual or organisation whose contributions have significantly improved Jamaica's quality of life during the year or are expected to bring such change in the near future.
This year, the award takes on added significance in light of the passage of Hurricane Ivan as many companies and individuals came to the aid of less fortunate Jamaicans.
Apart from the major prize of 'Man of the Year', there are eight separate categories: Arts and Culture; Sports; Entertainment; Education and Public Service; Science and Technology; Business; Voluntary Service and Health and Wellness.
Members of the public can nominate their choice more than once but public opinion is only part of the selection process. A 10-member selection committee, chaired by the Hon. Gerald Lalor, will also take other nominations into account when making their decision.
