Car theft at Tinson Pen
published: Sunday | November 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WRITE to warn unsuspecting travellers who use the Tinson Pen Aerodrome and who leave their cars in the parking lot there in the mistaken belief that the cars are safe.

On Wednesday November 3, 2004 I left a car in the parking lot at 9:30 a.m. for a trip to Montego Bay and when I returned at 5:25 p.m. that same afternoon the car was nowhere to be found.

First of all it took some time to find someone who would take my report and I was eventually referred to a female security guard standing at the entrance to the terminal. Her only comment was "dem tief car when the car park full' and that I should report it to the police - no effort to take name, address, make of vehicle etc.

The matter was reported to the Newport West Police but worse still, efforts to reach a member of the Airports Authority (from the president down) have all proved futile although late on Thursday, after speaking to a friend who is related to a senior member of the Airport Authority staff, I finally got a call from someone at the Authority.

Travellers be aware therefore your vehicles are not safe parked at Tinson Pen Aerodrome.

I am, etc.,

ERROL SPENCE

Norwood Avenue, Kingston 6
