Insulting the democratic process
published: Friday | November 5, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I RESPOND to a letter written by Dennis Francis "No comfort from US election", which was actually 'the letter of the day'. I thought perhaps Mr Francis was like so many persons (worldwide) who were devastated by the polling results that U.S. President George W. Bush has been given the official mandate to continue his policies and tactics for yet another four years! How scary is that?

Mr Francis, writing from an American address, eventually admitted that he didn't bother to vote, using the lame excuse that none of the candidates represented the issues that concerned him personally; how sad. Strangely, Mr Francis now has so much to say about the elections and American politics and what the future holds.

It's responses like this which insult the democratic process. If you choose not to vote for whatever reason, you will most likely get what you deserve; no use crying, after the fact!

I am, etc.,

P. CHIN
