CONSISTENCY COUNTS

The US election results have driven home the point to me, and I hope the rest of the world, of the importance of being consistent, decisive and confident in one's affairs, however humble or extravagant they may be.

George W. Bush for all the assaults on his character and intent, is a resolute leader, firm, if not fair, and this is what instills followers to follow. One got the idea that John Kerry was either uncertain of the stand to take on issues or was just wavering in order to get everyone's vote.

CASINO GAMBLING

The government is stalling on casino gambling in Jamaica because of ethical and religious reasons. Casino gambling will bring millions into Jamaica in terms of foreign and local investments, it will create employment for thousands of the unemployed, and get our economy moving in the right direction.

While we have stalled on casino gambling, why hasn't any member of our government or any religious group spoken out against the local massage parlour and Russian strip clubs?

These clubs and parlours offer so much more than a strip show and they have now become a part of the Kingston scene. Why should this be allowed?

KILLING MUST STOP

I want to know what the Government is doing about crime in Jamaica. So many times when you look in the newspapers all you hear about is killing; this nonsense must stop, the Government has to have some strict measures in place to alleviate the very high murder rate. One suggestion is to re-institute hanging; this may cause those that want to commit murders to think twice.

I would like to express my profound condolences to the family of the late Inspector Hinds who was gunned down without mercy. I pray that whoever is responsible for this atrocious crime is caught and brought to justice.

THIS MADNESS!

It is with sadness that the death toll from violent crime surpasses 1,200 for the year.

This is comparable to the number of American soldiers (1,100) that have died in Iraq since the beginning of the war! Are there any reasonable suggestions on the horizon to combat this madness?
