DaCosta Cup - Three advance to quarter-finals
published: Sunday | October 31, 2004

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THREE SCHOOLS, Godfrey Stewart High, Lennon High and Christiana, have confirmed their places in the quarter-finals of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup following yesterday's third round of matches in the inter-zone round.

The other five places will be confirmed tomorrow when three rescheduled games will be played. Black River face Cedric Titus at Jarrett Park after yesterday's game at Elliston Wakeland was washed out; Dinthill Technical meet Garvey Maceo at the Prison Oval while Seaforth and Old Harbour clash at a venue to be decided.

The venue for the Seaforth vs Old Harbour game will not be announced until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, as no spectators will be allowed to watch the game after it was called off on Wednesday due to fan violence.

Godfrey Stewart High topped Group One after spanking Brown's Town High 3-0 at Addison Park and they are the only team that can finish the round with a prefect nine points thanks to goals from Dwayne Forrester, Kevin Thompson and captain Dwayne Williams.

LENNON EASE UP

Lennon eased into the top eight after handing Mile Gully their first loss of the season, winning 1-0 to top Group Three with seven points while Christiana also topped Group Four with seven points after upsetting Clarendon College 2-1 with goals from Leighton Holness in the first half and Nicholas McDonald five minutes form time after Clarendon had equalised in the first half.

Among the teams that will be eagerly watching tomorrow's games are defending champions Frome Technical, Glenmuir High and Titchfield who are all on seven points after wins yesterday along with Cornwall College, Old Harbour, Dinthill and Garvey Maceo.

FROME ON TOP

Frome Technical, who came from behind to beat William Knibb 2-1 at Jarrett Park, are on top of Group One but Black River can pass them on goal difference if they can beat Cedric Titus by two clear goals tomorrow.

Glenmuir beat Seaforth 3-0 to be on top in Group Five but Old Harbour, who trounced Brimmer Vale 14-0 yesterday, are on four points and can win the group with a victory over Seaforth.

Denroy Wilson's 12th goal of the season gave Titchfield a 1-0 win over Garvey Maceo to lead Group Six but Dinthill, who had a 5-2 win over Annotto Bay yesterday, can win the group if they can beat Garvey Maceo.

Dwight Wilson scored seven times to bring his total to 16 for the season and Fashanu-Ron Nesbeth scored six to take his tally to 14 as Old Harbour ran riot over Brimmer Vale.

At Jarrett Park, captain Jahvon Russell scored a hat-trick and Omroy Wilson score twice in the first half as Cornwall College took out their frustrations on Grange Hill 6-0.
