Poor office etiquette
published: Sunday | October 31, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHAT IS it that makes one offended in dealing with government offices in Jamaica? I am always of the view, which is imparted by the person(s) I have dealt with at these institutions, that it is a bother for them to do their jobs and do it efficiently and effectively. Or if it is a telephone call, when someone finally answers, the impression received is that, "I did you a favour in answering your call, what do you want?"

It is time for us to stop and examine ourselves and the way we treat our fellow Jamaicans! If we are in an office environment, we are employed to serve! And we should do so with dignity and humility. As the saying goes, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

So please, for those of us who know better and are concerned about the social welfare of Jamaica, try to impart this attitude to those that are straining the reputation of our government Institutions.

I am, etc.,

KARLENE HALLIMAN
