An economic task force next?
published: Sunday | October 24, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE MINISTER of National Security has come up with 'Operation Kingfish' yet another innovative squad to rid the country of soaring crime.

Finally, we will have the JDF, JCF, OCID, CID, SATCF and CIN working together from two different locations in a renewed effort to fight crime.

The FBI and CIA, failed to coordinate but our minister has confidence that nearly six law enforcement agencies in Jamaica will be able share intelligence in a productive manner. Talk about 'too much rats never dig a good hole'.

I must also point out brand new vehicles, patrol boats and massive repairs to police stations will be undertaken as a part of this venture. I guess pretty soon the hard-working police officers will be getting big wage increases along with better fringe benefits, hence all entities involved in this new initiative will be satisfied.

Extortion, murder, kidnappings, rape and robberies will no longer dominate our evening news. We basically have crime under the wraps, once again.

As the minister stated, no one is immune and this squad is not like all the other ones.

I guess an economic and social task force will be on the way to deal with disenfranchised, displaced, disgruntled, disappointed and despondent members of the society who are jobless, homeless and struggling to survive.

I am, etc,
