New launch date for 'GoLocal Biz Kids' competition
published: Sunday | October 24, 2004

'GOLOCAL BIZ Kids', a competition encouraging entrepreneurship for high school students will be launched at the Gleaner Company head office on Thursday November 4, 2004, instead of the previously arranged September date.

The competition which will involve school teams developing business projects and keeping the public abreast of their progress via free website space being provided by golocaljamaica.com, is being organised by golocaljamaica.com in association with a number of business sector partners.

MONTHLY INCENTIVES

'GoLocal Biz Kids' will run for six months and will be judged on a monthly basis by a panel of judges with monthly incentives. Major prizes will be awarded at the end of the competition and these include individual prizes as well as prizes for the school.

The Private Sector Organisa-tion of Jamaica is working with golocaljamaica as partner in this competition. Among the sponsors aboard for this project so far are: Sangster's Book Stores, Power 106, AAMM Co-operative Credit Union, Kraft Foods, Air Jamaica, SuperClubs and One Stop Computers.

EMPLOYMENT SOLUTIONS

The competition should not only engender business skills and teamwork among students, but provide practical employment solutions for graduates in the face of a highly competitive and challenging job market. 'GoLocal Biz Kids' is the second leg of go-localjamaica's inaugural' GoLocal In Schools' competition, which was launched last year and won by Clarendon College with runners-up being Norman Manley High and Denbigh High. Last year's competition's theme was 'Show Your Community To The World' where schools highlighted their communities on the school section of the
go-localjamaica website.
