Boyz file in for Panama clash
published: Tuesday | August 31, 2004

By Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA'S PREPARATION for the second game of the CONCACAF Group semi-final World Cup qualification series will be well and truly underway tomorrow with the arrival of the majority of overseas based players coming in tonight.

Ricardo Gardner was expected to join the local-based players last night, while tonight Claude Davis, Ricardo Fuller, Micah Hyde, Marlon King, Richard Langley, Jaime Lawrence and Deon Burton are expected to make their arrival.

Tomorrow Donovan Ricketts, Jermaine Johnson, Damani Ralph, Andy Williams, and Tyrone Marshall are expected to make their appearance in the island.

It is uncertain when the Tranmere Rovers pair of Ian Goodison and Theodore Whitmore are due for the match.

The squad remains largely unchanged but for the addition of newcomers Akeem Priestly and Jermaine Taylor from the Under-20 team, midfielder Jamie Lawrence, who was unable to make the last trip and left full back Garfield Reid, who missed the last game due to a one-match suspension after picking up a red card against Haiti.

The overseas-based players are expected to join Fabian Davis, Christopher Jackson, Gerald Neil, Richard McCallum and Aaron Lawrence

FINAL SQUAD

The final squad, however, is expected to come largely from the overseas-based players.

The Jamaican team will be looking to rebound in a Panama encounter at the National Stadium on Saturday after having the United States 1-0 down with only a few minutes to go in the game.

On that occasion Jamaica were in a stage of transition, having only just acquired the services of a new head coach in the form of Sebastiao Lazaroni, who had only been around the team for a few days.

The extended preparation period this time around will allow Lazaroni a longer look at the players, who have a tough match-up against a Panamanian team that went to El Slavador and came away 2-1 losers.

They will be looking to improve their away statistics and with a result as close as that against El Slavador, who have perennially been close rivals of the Jamaicans, the country awaits with baited breath what this new coach and his squad have to offer.
