Delivering the gold

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT'S A great time for Jamaicans all over the diaspora. The triumph of Veronica Campbell and the relay team in such spectacular form has left the arrogant U.S. sprint contingent emotionally violated.
We all remember the awful feeling as we watched Merlene Ottey shafted of her gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics. The dominance of U.S. sprint athletes in view of their short-lived stamina has long been suspect. It seems that the chickens have finally come home to roost now that stringent anti-doping measures have robbed many of their usual advantage.
Jamaican athletes have proved that given a level playing field, their natural talent will deliver the gold.
I am, etc.,
