Social - Fun, frolic and French adieu
published: Sunday | August 8, 2004

Chester Francis-Jackson, Gleaner Writer

IT'S THAT time of the year again, you know, when the fabulous throws caution to the wind.

The chic simply go fashion crazy, and the party-hearty, party all-night long, right through the winter season.

It's also that time of the year, when the internationally famous, quoted and recognised, stay away from those other 'in-spots' as they shy away from the intrusive glare of the lens, the international paparazzi, and head for this here island-in-the-sun for a little bit of R&R and, naturally, a little au natural sun-bathing.

Luvs, aam-a-telling-y'all, the island is buzzing with the cache of fabulousness and then some as the gilded and their accompanying entourages have been flocking to the island this here summer like it is indeed going out of style, and so this is like one big last hurrah!

Dears, we are talking aristocrats and other blue bloods; gentry; the celebrated and the dee-vine here, and like everybody's business, they are everywhere, and are partying like it's a testimony of the bon-fire to the 1990s from Negril through to Port Antonio, and dear, it is like the local haute-snobissimo can't nearly get enough of them.

Well, pumpkins, after a month in the mountain of Montana, the mega-wealthy Texan millionaire Dennis Joslin and his oh-so-charmingly fabulous wife, Jane Joslin are back in time to join in the Independence celebrations this weekend.

London-based international hair-stylist to the rich and famous, the celebrated and the cultured, Paul Windle of Windle Hair, Covent Gardens, London, is also making it a Jamaican summer, as he too was spotted over there at the tres chic boutique hotel, The Cave, over there in the oh so fabulous mecca of sun sea and sand, Negril.

His father, John Windle, formerly of London, now of California and New York, was spotted with his beautiful wife Cherise Francis-Windle, vacationing on the east, south and north coast, of the island, before jetting back to their Californian home fresh from their Mediterranean cruise and ahead of their September renewal of their marital vows, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of their wedding aboard the luxury yacht, the MY Zein, in 1999.

FUN AND FROLIC

And, speaking of wedding anniversaries, Kevin Levee and his stunningly gorgeous wife, Cecile Levee, celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on Wednesday, of this week.

Lennox Lewis is in Montego Bay.

And then, Her Grace, the uncommonly wealthy and candidly beautiful daughter of late German industrialist Baron von Thyssen and the wife of the great-grand son of the last Austrian Emperor, Prince Karl von Habsburg, she being the absolutely lovely Princess Francesca von Hapsburgs is summering at her Port Antonio family home.

Then, also in Port Antonio last weekend, was another descendant of yet another world historical figure. Christobal Colon, the great-grandson (10 times removed), of the world famed Spanish explorer, Christopher Colombus, who was spotted over on the Jamaican Riviera over there in fabulous San-San, at Jamaica's most photographed villa, The Blue marlin, the Port Antonio home of 'a-Crowd' socialite, the charming Valerie Marzouca, as she played host to the visiting dignitary and his host, Spanish Ambassador Rafael Jover, at a very swanky luncheon at her oh-so-fab, and divine villa.

Dears, it was all fab and then some, as we are talking frozen daiquiris and margaritas, champagne and a fare that was a toast to epicureans the world over.

Talk about hot! Life does not get anymore fabulous than at the Blue Marlin Villa!

Then also visiting the island over last weekend was PAUL LEVY and his fabulous wife DIANE, he, formerly of Beverly Hills Jamaica, and she, Diane Cook of Mandeville, were spotted on the North Coast, living it up and looking positively delightful and then some!

My-daahlings, it's not only fashionable to be rich, being rich is the only fashion statement, so party on.

The fabulous Jacqui Tyson blew out the candles on another birthday cake on Tuesday, her beau Roy Riley announcing that wedding bells will ring, whenever she sets the date.

DEPARTURES

And Kingston's high-society and the diplomatic community will not be the same after this summer as indeed, French Ambassador Pierre-Antoine Berniard and his fabulous Spanish wife, Luisa Berniard, will be taking up a new post.

Also leaving soon will be Indian High Commissioner Inder Choper and his flawlessly elegant wife Nanita Choper, who return to India at the end of their tour of duty here.

Deputy head of mission of the German Embassy, Werner Fleck-Chatelaine and his wife, Paola Bendielli are also departing our shores and taking diplomatic leave of our company as will be Patrick Lapouze of the French embassy and Vivian A Monteith, the Jamaican-born First Secretary in charge of development, at the Canadian High Commission in Kingston, who retires from the Canadian Foreign Service this summer.

Dears, more anon, but the social scene will not be the same again, with so many departures this season.

And oops, y'all because if y'all have not yet confirmed your reservations for this here weekend, then hate yourselves as it's a bumper weekend of fullybooked resorts and villas from Port Antonio, all through weekend, for the buck-wild seasonal orgy of unending parties.
