Gibson eyeing JFF appointment
published: Friday | July 16, 2004

BURCHELL GIBSON looks set to be appointed general secretary of the Crenston Boxhill-led Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

Gibson's six-month probationary period as acting general secretary ended on Monday and Boxhill has recommended that he be appointed to the post.

Boxhill, who described Gibson as a "bright young man", said he was pleased with his progress.

Gibson took office on Monday January 12 shortly after resigning his position as JFF director of competitions and was given the responsibility of running the JFF's administrative office.

Over this period, Gibson said he has re-organised the whole staffing complement.

"We are now up and running in full complement," he said. "I've revamped the whole ticketing system for games and now we think we have a more ready system in place although we are using the same personnel.

"Administratively, we think we have a very good outlook in terms of quality and persons working internally compared to what we had when I took over."

Boxhill endorsed Gibson's work.

"I'm satisfied, that's why I recommended him. It is now for the board of directors to respond," he said.

Gibson seems prepared to continue the job he started six months ago.

"I am presently in discussion with him (Boxhill) regarding other pertinent matters to the post and once those are accepted we'll just move on," he said.

"My view is to bring the administration to a more professional standard. We are accountable to the public because it's a national sport," he added.

Gibson was president of the Portland Football Association between 1996-2004 and former assistant manager of all national teams.
