By Daraine Luton, Freelance WriterTHE ARRIVAL of Sabastiao Lazaroni and his three-member team won't cost members of Jamaica's Carl Brown-led coaching staff their jobs. That's the word from the president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Crenston Boxhill.
Boxhill this week told The Gleaner, although the main priority was to qualify the Reggae Boyz for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the Federation has a wider responsibility to the development of football in general.
"Nobody will lose their jobs," Boxhill said.
"Lazaroni is coming here to qualify the team to Germany but the programme still goes on," he added.
Lazaroni's team will include a physical trainer, Glydiston Ananias, who worked in Jamaica previously under Rene Simoes. There will also be a goalkeeping and assistant coach.
Junior Samuels, who is the current physical trainer, along with goalkeeper coach Paul Campbell and Brown have agreed to be part of Lazaroni's support staff. Meanwhile, Lazaroni who walked away from Jamaica in 2000 after three months with the JFF, will be responsible for the Boyz along the Journey to Germany.
Prior to the contracting of Lazaroni's services, Brown operated as head coach and technical director. His assistant Peter Cargill, a veteran of the 1998 World Cup team was sacked as assistant coach in March after failing to qualify the Under-23s for the Olympic Games.
