Good call, C&W
published: Sunday | May 23, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ONCE AGAIN Cable and Wireless Jamaica Foundation has shown its commitment to nation-building by providing another selfless act of kind contribution to a worthwhile cause. By donating the facilities for hosting the Web site of the National Registry of Volunteers to the tune of $750,000 per annum, they have highlighted their leadership in renewing a spirit of volunteerism in Jamaica.

As a volunteer I know only too well the constraints placed on our activities because of a lack of adequate funding but this donation by Cable and Wireless Jamaica Foundation has renewed spirits and given hope. Jamaica needs more corporate citizens like C&W engaging in not-for-profit activities and this is just one means of giving back to the people.

The society has lost its appetite for volunteerism and as a citizen I am indeed proud of this effort by Cable and Wireless and hope that others will follow their lead in doing more to help those who help others. Thank you, Cable and Wireless.

I am, etc.,

ANTOINE NEMBHARD

Kingston 6
