LETTER OF THE DAY
Crime-politics links: Action now

published: Sunday | May 23, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD have endorsed what Dr. Peter Phillips said in Parliament May 19, 2004, if it was said 20 years ago. I think it is too late to condemn politicians and law enforcement members who have links to drug dons. An obliteration programme should have been put in place years ago which would have had severe implications for criminals.

The public is not blind to the fact of the affiliation that law enforcement and politicians have with these thieves and murders, that is stale news. Yes, we are quite aware. What I for one would like to know is whether everyone in Parliament and the Force are willing to make the first step to stop this nonsense.

If you place some politicians and nuisance-to-society in the same location, given that they were dressed in similar clothes (casual or elegant) it would be a thorny task to identify the leaders from the criminals, it would be like crab on the sand.

So, Mr. Phillips, thank you for reminding us of the corruption in the system, but the question is what are you personally going to do about it? Being that you are the 'Minister of National Security' and all?

I am, etc.,
