THE WORKS of 42 students from the School of Visual Arts at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA) will be on show in the 2004 graduation exhibition. The show is scheduled to open on May 29 in the college's amphitheatre, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Organised this year under the theme 'Stages', the exhibition is part of final year examination requirements at the EMCVPA, and involves the submission of a research paper and a body of work for assessment. Afterwards the works are put up for public viewing in a show usually attended by art lovers and critics alike.
This year, graduates in the department of visual communications (graphics and illustration) and art education lead the field with the quantity of work produced, but high calibre work will also be presented, produced in the departments of painting, ceramics, textiles, jewellery and sculpture.
Exhibition co-ordinator, Natalie Butler, told The Sunday Gleaner that "This exhibition represents a great opportunity for the public to see and enjoy the high calibre of work produced in the various departments."
For the opening ceremony, students are organising an entertainment package to feature dance, poetry and musical performances.
Thereafter from May 30 the exhibition will be open to the public in the studios at the School of the Visual Arts with viewing hours from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. Works of the students will be on sale, as well as colour catalogues. The exhibition will run until June 11.
