Proud to be a Manchester High past student
published: Thursday | May 13, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE ALLOW me a slot in The Gleaner to express how proud I am to be a past student of Manchester High School (MHS). I attended from 1991 until 1998 when I graduated from sixth form as the Deputy Head Girl.

For me, one of our major achievements outside of academic performance took place when our female athletes dethroned Vere Technical at Girls' Champs. Vere had held the title for I believe 14 or 15 years and Manchester High School were the ones to tell them "step aside now, another man wants to take over".

Today I am writing because of the pride that I have felt in watching the consistently great performance of MHS in the School's Challenge Quiz competition since 1998. We have seen some schools come and go. MHS has been consistent and even though, we have been edged out two years in a row, we still remain very consistent in our performance.

Hats off to Mr. Thompson and his team of coaches and kudos to the teams that took us to the final of the School's Challenge Quiz competition last year and this year and that captured the Dennis Hall trophy for scoring the most points in the competition this year. I am so proud to be a Manchester High School past student!

I am, etc.
