Edwards to bolster Windies
published: Sunday | March 28, 2004

BRIDGETOWN,

Barbados (AP):

EXPRESS FAST bowler Fidel Edwards returns from injury to boost the West Indies squad for this week's third Test against England, cricket officials said yesterday in naming the 14-member squad.

The West Indies trail 2-0 in the four-match Cable & Wireless series. The third Test, in Barbados, begins on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Edwards was clocking more than 90 mph (145 kph) in the first Test in Jamaica, but injured his back during the match and was forced to miss the second Test in Trinidad.

BROKE HIS THUMB

Opener Devon Smith broke his thumb while practising in his native Grenada last week, and may not play in the third Test. He was the only West Indies player to score a century in the series so far, recording it during the first Test which the West Indies lost by 10 wickets after scoring just 47 in their second innings.

The West Indies Cricket Board included Smith in the line-up, however, with Daren Ganga added as cover.

WEST INDIES SQUAD: captain Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Dwayne Smith, Ricardo Powell, Daren Ganga, Ryan Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Corey Collymore, Tino Best, Fidel Edwards, Pedro Collins.
