THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WISH to use this medium to express my thanks to Corporal Myers and Constable Edwards of the motorised patrol of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, for the kind assistance they rendered to me on the morning of Monday, March 8, 2004.
I was travelling along the Mandela Highway when I felt an excruciating pain in my left side. So severe was the pain that I felt myself passing out. I managed to pull over to the side of the road and turned on the hazard lights before passing out.
When I regained partial consciousness, I saw two uniformed police officers standing beside my car. They indicated that they were on patrol and had observed that I seemed to have a problem and had stopped to enquire if they could be of any assistance.
I barely managed to communicate my problem to them whereupon they removed me from my car, placed me in their car and took me to the Spanish Town Hospital. One of them drove my car to the hospital.
At the hospital they ascertained where I worked and promptly called my office to alert my co-workers regarding my condition. At a time when Jamaicans in general and members of the police force in particular are regularly castigated for being callous and uncaring, the behaviour of these officers is a timely reminder that all is not lost. Keep it up gentlemen and thank you.
I am, etc.,
