end at Ja-Ja TODAY IS the final day for viewing 'Blessings', an exhibition of new works at the Jamaican-American Jewellery and Art (JA-JA) Gallery in Negril, Westmoreland.
'Young Generation' opens
ON MARCH 30, starting at 6:30 p.m., the annual 'Young Generation' group show is scheduled to open at the Mutual Gallery and Art Centre, 2 Oxford Road, Kingston 5. The exhibition features works by 19 artists who have graduated or who began to paint professionally within the past 10 years. Guest speaker will be Dr. Brian Morgan, chairman of the dental council of Jamaica. The exhibition will run until April 16.
Opening of
education museum
THE MICO College announces the opening of the Museum of Education at the College, with a permanent exhibition on the evolution of the Jamaican educational system. Titled, 'Winds of Change: Evolution of education in Jamaica', this exhibition will be formally opened on March 31 at the Renford Shirley Building, 1A Marescaux Road, Kingston 5, starting at 4:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Governor-General, Hon. Sir Howard Cooke.
'Eight of the Great'
BOLIVAR GALLERY, 1D Grove Road, Kingston 10 presents 'Eight of the Great', an exhibition featuring works by artists Seya Parboosingh, Graham Davis, Heather Sutherland-Wade, Samere Tansley, P.J. Stewart, Carol Crichton, Patrick Waldemar, and Amy Laskin. The show is scheduled to open on March 31 at 7:00 p.m., with guest speaker Wain Iton, general manager of the Jamaica Stock Exchange. The exhibition continues until April 17.
Awards ceremony
THE SCIENTIFIC Research Council (SRC) will present winning entries in its Essay and Poster competition on March 31 at the PCJ auditorium, starting at 10:00 a.m. Guest speaker will be Winston Forest, senior education officer in the Ministry of education. Students from primary and secondary/high school islandwide will be recognised for outstanding work.
'From Discard
to Regard'
SCULPTOR NOSBOURNE C. Lee presents 'From Discard to Regard', an exhibition of metal sculpture, at Revolution Gallery, 52 Lady Musgrave Road, Kingston 6, to open on April 1 at 7:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Burchell Duhaney, principal of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA). Re-launch of 'Jamaica Journal'

'City of Kings' exhibition
THE NATIONAL Gallery of Jamaica, in association with the German Embassy in Kingston, presents 'City of Kings: Black Expo (Step IV)', an exhibition by German artist Gerd Rohling. The exhibition is scheduled to open on April 4, starting at 11:00 a.m., and will run through to May 15.
Everald Brown
retrospective
A MAJOR exhibition dedicated to the work of the late artist, Everald Brown, is scheduled to open at the National Gallery of Jamaica in downtown Kingston on Emancipation Day, August 1, starting at 11:00 a.m.
Festival entries
THE NATIONAL Fine Arts and Photography Competitions organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) are now open. Entry forms are available at the JCDC head office, 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10, as well as the Mutual Gallery, Grosvenor Gallery and parish offices islandwide. Forms can also be downloaded from the JCDC Web site: www.jcdc.org.jm. Deadline for fine arts entries is May 7 at parish offices and May 21 at the head office. Photographic entries must be submitted by June 7. Artists and photographers of all ages are invited to participate.
