Exciting finish to Classic
published: Sunday | March 7, 2004

ARIZONA-BASED JAMAICAN Philip Prendergast claimed the men's crown at the recent Colour Solutions Classic at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club.

The excitement that the four-way tie in the men's section would have generated did not pan out as it was decided by matching cards instead of a sudden death playoff.

Prendergast (81-76-157), with a better final-round score, won the title ahead of Rory Jardine (78-79), Lindy Bartley (76-81) and George Hugh (74-83).

Former national representative Fred Sutherland dethroned his fellow teammate and playing partner Dennis Atkinson when he walked away with the top prize in the seniors section at last weekend's event which was the final Jamaica Golf Association qualifying tournament of the season before the National Trials.

Sutherland's first round of one-over 73 - which turned out to be the lowest gross of the event - made up for a damaging second-round 86 and was enough to give him a three-stroke victory over defending champion Atkinson who scored 79 and 83. Tony Gooden was third (84-88).

Former Test cricketer Maurice Foster continues to make his mark in the superseniors section, clinching his second victory of the season after being one of the few players who managed to keep their game consistent over the 36 holes. He carded two rounds of 77 for a five-stroke win over Cleo Taylor.

Jodi Munn-Barrow was the ladies winner (81-78-159) while Michiko Asonuma took the senior ladies crown (83-90-173). Dillon Rowe won the juniors 18 and Under section, while Adrian Bradford took home the 15 and under trophy.
