High praises for Jamaica
published: Sunday | March 7, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir:
IF EVER there was a time we as a people should be proud to be identified as Jamaicans wherever in the world we are, it is now: At a time when our economy is suffering its worst battering we are able to extend the hand of brotherhood and friendship to our Haitian brothers in distress.
Truly, we are demonstrating to the world that we are capable, as a nation, of practising the Christian edict that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
The first thing I believe the authorities should endeavour to do, once the refugees have been processed, is to have the remaining parishes share the load, and hopefully, our CARICOM partners will do likewise. Perhaps countries which are unwilling to accept them could provide such financial and material aid to the countries which are.
I am, etc.,
