Indebted Confed clubs meet
published: Tuesday | February 17, 2004

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

AN EMERGENCY meeting among teams taking part in the Fred Smith Western Confederation Super League will be held at Jarrett Park this afternoon, starting at 1:00 p.m. as over $100,000 is still owed by the teams.

The Gleaner learnt yesterday that a number in the competition still owe money for transfer fees and a cess for yellow and red cards issued.

It was also learnt that all the St. James teams - Altobar, Mount Salem, Tomorrow's People, Granville and Wadadah, along with Orange Hill of Westmoreland have paid up while Studs of Trelawny have paid part of what they owe.

The other teams taking part in the league are Harmony and Flames of Trelawny; Bamboo of Hanover; and Russia and Petersfield from Westmoreland.

ONE GAME PLAYED

As a result of the monies owed, only one of the six games scheduled for Satur-day's start of the return round was played; Granville beat Tomorrow's People, the losing mid-season finalists, 2-1 at Bickersteth.

The win lifted Granville into sixth position on 16 points. Mount Salem lead with 23 points, one more than Tomorrow's People with Wadadah (18) and Orange Hill and Altobar both on 17, completing the top five.
