published: Tuesday | February 10, 2004

MRS. CHRISTINE Johnston, sales & marketing manager of Jamaica Freight & Shipping (JF&S) and line manager for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) represented JF&S at the China Shipping Container Lines 2004 Worldwide Agency Meeting of China Shipping Group in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, January 9-11, 2004. Representatives from 69 countries were in attendance.

Information received at the meeting indicated that in 2003 a total of six 5688 TEU and two 4100 TEU newly-built vessels were delivered, enabling China Shipping container capacity to pass 200,000 TEU. This year 12 new vessels should be added, including vessels with 8200 TEU capacities. The aim is to build CSCL into one of the biggest and strongest container carriers by 2010.

As of February 2004 CSCL will begin worldwide service, enhancing its current schedule to include direct calls to Kingston from Port Keelang, Colombo, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Damieta, Felixstowe, Hamburg, New York, Norfolk, and Charleston.
