Outrageous airfares
published: Tuesday | February 10, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir

THE AIRFARE out of Fort Lauderdale/Miami International Airport to any destination whose duration does not exceed 90 minutes averages less than U$200. In fact sometimes there are fares of that same value to New York City. How can Air Jamaica and American Airlines justify their outrageous fare structure of over U$400 for the same duration of flight? Easy. The Kingston-Miami route is a feeding tree for these airlines with hardly a flight not fully booked.

Jamaican travellers must realise that they are being exploited and boycott these airlines by restricting their travel plans to the minimum. Until both these airlines begin to feel the wrath of travellers from a monetary viewpoint they will continue to offer 'legalised rubbish'.

I am, etc.,
