Shawn Findlay of Nehemiah Perry's XI plays straight during the second day of Jamaica's final practice match at Sabina Park yesterday.

WEST INDIES fast bowler Daren Powell will not be considered for Jamaica's opening round Carib Beer Series match away to Windward Islands which starts in St. Lucia on Friday.

Powell, 25, who returned to the island just over a week ago from a stint with South Africa provincial team Gauteng, pulled out of the squad yesterday after bowling one over in Jamaica's final practice at Sabina Park.

At the end of the over, which cost six runs, Powell complained of stiffness to the lower back.

Meanwhile, Nehemiah Perry's XI, replying to 391 for nine declared made by Gareth Breese's XI, were 164 for four when stumps were drawn on yesterday's second and penultimate day.

Earlier, Breese's XI resumed at 282 for four and lost Tamar Lambert for 132

after he added 13 to his overnight score. Lambert, who struck 14 fours and two sixes off 244 balls, and skipper Breese, unbeaten on 77, in an innings in which he belted nine fours off 146 balls were the sides's top scorers.

Unbeaten from three innings played so far, Mario Ventura on 76 (15x4, 100-ball) is standing tall in Perry's XI's fight for top honours.

Keith Hibbert contributed 45 while David Bernard Jnr., was on two. Andrew Richardson (2-20) has taken the most wickets so far for Breese's XI.
