Burrell, you have set a standard
published: Wednesday | November 26, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THANK YOU, Mr. Burrell, for almost nine years of service to Jamaica, you have done well, and have set a standard that we are hoping will be upheld. Your achievements speak for themselves as we went to World Cup three different times in nine years: the men's under-23 and the under-16 and the seniors. You have set a pace which those looking on thought was easy, and they are now getting their opportunity. Do not have any animosity, because once a great general said, "I shall return" and he did.

The new president should take heed of your success and try to continue on, for if he doesn't, we will be going back nine years, proving that the 54-49 is irrelevant. Nine years ago the Jamaica Football Federation was at this level: Montego Bay players had to take the bus straight back home after an international match, meetings were held at the National Stadium in hot and humid conditions, when the administration selected the Jamaica team instead of the coach (technical director). It was a time when the Cayman Island was beating us.

Now all is good, and we are about to embark on another journey another World Cup. For Jamaica's sake I hope this administration does not falter, but if they do they have no excuses, because they know what they are getting into.

With regards to transparency, I do hope Mr. Boxhill, is not just talk, because it took him three months, or three days before the election before he could declare his manifesto, giving the public little time to scrutinise it and ask relevant questions.

I am etc.,
