Seaga: Second to none
published: Tuesday | November 25, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE DETRACTORS of Hon. Edward Seaga, especially certain journalists should find Schadenfruede (malicious enjoyment of another's misfortune) in his company's financial woes.

That situation is definitely untenable for any Leader of the Opposition to find himself. Isn't it now opportune for parliament to enact a law that makes it mandatory for those who hold certain public office to put their private assets in a blind trust or be sold? By doing so, Mr. Editor you eliminate any appearance of corruption, cronyism or nepotism. Bearing in mind that the situation of failed business is not unique to the Leader of the Opposition.

Mr. Editor may I use this opportunity to request that journalists show respect to our leader at all times and more so to our elder statesman, The Hon. Edward Seaga. He who has contributed so much to the advancement of Jamaica. Undoubtedly in terms of nation building he is second to none and equal to the best.

I am, etc.,

EARL LAWRENCE

Boscobel P.O.

St. Mary
