Please spare Port Antonio
published: Tuesday | November 25, 2003

THE EDITOR Sir,

FIRST OF all let me say that I am not against development/progress but when it causes more harm than good something needs to be done.

Historically Portland was known as the parish with the third highest rainfall per year. Port Antonio is also regarded as one of the most exquisite ports on earth. Why is this so? This is because of its unusual geophysical, and micro-climatic varieties that produce land, coastal and marine ecosystems of extraordinary biodiversity. Do we still have that rainfall pattern in I was shocked when I read the Sunday Gleaner of November 23 and note that the government is about to destroy the last liveable place in Ja, with more highways. When will these people learn that destroying the trees and the marshlands are detrimental. They destroyed Negril, Ocho Rios, and the Kingston Harbour, but they are not satisfied. They are roaming all over the country destroying the beauty that is left. I know that Jamaicans are smart people who know better, so let your voice be heard.

I am, etc.,
