THE GOVERNMENT will table a Ministry Paper in Parliament today, outlining its approach to developments in the global fight against terrorism.
Speaking during yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, Information Minister Burchell Whiteman noted that the Ministry Paper contains an update on the measures being adopted by the Government.
It comes ahead of a follow-up to the action plan on terrorism set by the powerful Group of Eight, called 'Building Political Will and Capacity to Combat Terrorism'.
"It is a general update on how Jamaica is dealing with the commitment it has made to support internationally agreed measures for combating terrorism," Minister Whiteman said.
He indicated that the update was being provided in an attempt "to pre-empt any possible negative position that might be taken" by the G-8 countries, which include France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Canada, Italy and Russia.
The G-8 group, the Information Minister noted, is keeping watch on what is happening in countries with whom they do business around the world. The group is looking at the steps taken in complying with United Nations conventions, he added.
Though opting against ex-pounding on the details of the Ministry Paper, Minister Whiteman said that it included information on both the Government's legislative programmes and conventions signed and ratified "as an indication of our commitment to this global fight."
