Fulford displays wardrobe
published: Friday | November 7, 2003

THERE WAS an impressive display of fashion at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston on Wednesday evening, as Miss Jamaica 2003 Jade Fulford showed off her wardrobe for the Miss World competition, set for Sanya, China, on December 6.

The designs featured daywear, cocktail dresses, travel attire, business attire and evening gowns.

Jade wore the designs with style and grace and this may be one of the reasons why many of them appeared remarkable. The wardrobe consists of 16 pieces from main designers Uzuri, three by Max Brown and three by Haute Couture de Dawn. Suzanne Chin Pen's sole contribution to the wardrobe is the very appropriate Chung Sam Oriental dress, the piece Jade says she will use in an effort to garner some attention and support from the audience. Her swimsuits were designed by Loran V.

From Max Brown, Jade wore a stunning red gown with a plunging neckline and an interesting flower, which draws the attention to the bust of the dress. The third item worn was a black and red cocktail dress from 'The Mix Fashions'- her mother's store. Jade also wore a clinging black jumpsuit with decorative studs on the bust.

MAJOR DESIGNS

However, the major designs came from Uzuri. Their designs opened with a polysilk jade coloured pants suit, flared exaggeratedly at the bottom. Carl Williams of Uzuri said he tried to design clothes that would put Jade in good stead at the Miss World competition in December. Their pieces and indeed the majority of Miss Jamaica 2003's wardrobe, consist of designs in red and black.

The outfits reflected the designers' aim to present fresher, younger, hipper and more vibrant designs, which reflect Jade's personality. While they have succeeded in doing so, they have not departed from the underlying elegance of Miss World.

Jade Fulford was very happy about her wardrobe "I like everything," she said. She even has an evening gown and a lucky dress in her colour jade.

FAVOURITES

Among the audience's favourites were an aqua coloured gown, a blue sequined two-piece belly dancer type outfit, a very sheer, black dress that revealed a bit too much and a strapless sky blue mini with matching feathers at the end which is simply stunning.

The few people about 20 present enjoyed the designs, although some of the men enjoyed themselves a little too much. However, the extended waiting period between each presentation detracted from the showing. This, along with the absence of an announcer, were the only glitches that marred an otherwise very enjoyable evening.

Also present was Miss Jamaica Universe 2003, Michelle Lecky, who came to offer support and encouragement before Jade Fulford's trip to China. Her advice to Jade is to not to get distracted from her aim at the competition to win. "Block everyone else out and do your thing," Michelle Lecky said.

For the interview section, she says Jade should be on the lookout for the unexpected. "Be to the point, elaborate a little, but don't go off on a tangent," she said.

Jade Fulford left for China on Thursday.
