Give Jamaicans something to celebrate
published: Tuesday | November 4, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM very concerned about Jamaica and what is going to happen 10 years from now. There are so many questions but no answers.

Our government seems to be more interested in having themselves written down in history. Highway 2000 is one of the biggest government projects so far in Jamaica. To me it's good in a sense that there are more roads for cars to drive. But in another light I don't think we were ready for a toll-road, especially with our economic crisis.

As a citizen of Jamaica with freedom of speech I think our government is trying to be the first government to do too many things at once.

Projects like Highway 2000, toll-roads, setting up of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), and being the first presidential government are happening too fast.

Once the government used to put the people first, but they are now putting themselves first. We have no say in what is happening in our country. All the government is doing is burdening the people with excessive taxes.

Give Jamaica people the chance to write you into history so our children and grandchildren can celebrate it with joy, not doubt.

I am, etc.,
