UK visa system extreme failure
published: Saturday | October 25, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE ALLOW me some space in your newspaper to ask this question: Why is it so extremely difficult to obtain a UK visa? Initially, I thought, they said the visa system was implemented to improve security and make the movement of travellers easier.

Well, in my estimate, the system has failed. Drug trafficking is still on the increase as the mules explore endless means of transporting their substances and the movements of travellers have been restricted.

I have heard and listened to too many stories of denied UK visa applicants along with my own experience. They want us to prove that we don't intend to reside in their country.

The process of obtaining a UK visa is too subjective to the interviewers, who are ingrained firstly to believe your intention is to reside in their country permanently.

To this end, I ask, is there anything that can be done to make this process easier or will the average applicant be left to rely on a miracle?

I am, etc.,
