A CONTROVERSIAL 87th minute goal by Hugh Howell helped Excelsior to a 1-1 draw with Mona in their Group C Pepsi/Sports Plus Manning Cup fixture at Mona yesterday.
Howell's 87-minute strike was good enough for the visitors to cancel out Kemar Rodney's 47th minute goal.
Excelsior dominated play in the first 45 minutes but were kept out by Mona's defenders.
Mona went ahead when a back-pedalling Patrick Jones was caught off his line by Rodney two minutes after the break.
Excelsior threw everything into attack gaining four of fifteen corners in three minutes.
Howell, a member of last year's squad, climbed high from one of these corners to head home. However, Mona's players protested the goal as they said it entered through the side-netting.
In Spanish Town St. Jago's excellent run in this year's schoolboy's Pepsi Sports Cup Football competition continued as they swamped Vauxhall 6-0. This big win by the Monk Street team stretched their unbeaten run to six to be on 18 points as they became the most prolific team in the competition with 25 goals for and none against. Mark Miller scored twice in yesterday's win.
