published: Sunday | August 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with interest the contribution of Mr. Munroe on the confirmation of the Rev. Gene Robinson as Episcopalian Bishop of New Hampshire. As a member of Amnesty International I do not consider the confirmation of a gay man as bishop a sad sign.

On the contrary, I think that this has to be seen as an important step into the right direction. It is quite sad that even at the beginning of the 21st century people do not get judged by their performance on their job or the content of their character but by their sexual orientation.
